Red Wine Stain Removal Tips to Save Your Carpet - By Chris Daniel

Red wine stain removal tips are abundant and as diverse as night and day making it hard to know what is the best advice to follow. This article is going to cover some of these carpet cleaning tips and help you decide which one is best for you. Some tips work better than others and at the end of this article we're going to tell you the solution we found to be the very best. Here are six tips for cleaning wine stains from your carpet.

* Use commercial wine stain removers. These are specialty cleaners made specifically for cleaning wine stains. They work reasonably well and should be considered if you are a frequent wine drinker. You may want to purchase some before you need it and have on hand.

* Pour white wine over a red wine stain. This neutralizes the red color and makes it disappear. You’ll want to have at least three white towels. Use one to blot up all the excess wine. Next, use another towel and dampen it with water; place it over the stained area and apply pressure by stepping on it. Cover the stain with the last towel and leave until completely dry.

* Use OxiClean. This is a common cleaning product that can be found in most general stores. Mix 1 tablespoon with warm water, spray and blot, repeat as necessary.

* Use an ammonia and water solution. Mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1 cup of warm water. Saturate the carpet stain and then absorb most of the wetness with a towel. Next put white vinegar on the stain and let it set for a couple of minutes. Then again, absorb the wetness from the vinegar with a towel.

* Pour ordinary table salt over the stain covering it completely. This only works when the stain is still wet. Leave the stain overnight so the salt crystals can absorb the red pigment. Vacuum the salt in the morning and the stain should have disappeared entirely.

* Here's the absolute best method for removing red wine stains. Use a solution of dishwashing liquid (dawn or joy work well) and peroxide. Now the secret is you have to mix both ingredients together; neither will work by themselves. You'll want to use a little more peroxide than soap. After blotting up as much of the spill as possible, pour the peroxide/soap solution over the stained area. You will probably notice the stain actually disappearing before your eyes. Let it soak for several minutes and then blot dry. In addition to carpet, this also works great on clothes and upholstered items. You can also use this on older stains that have already dried with great success. If you end up with a sticky residue from the soap; it can be remedied by applying a solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. Let it soak then blot dry.

When cleaning any kind of carpet stain, there are some common things to do regardless of the stain source. You should immediately tend to fresh spills and always soak up as much excess liquid as you can. This will certainly make the stain removal easier. Also, never rub a stain as this will only make it spread. Use a white towel and blot or dab dry.
